Wear keds and stay elegant this summer

30 Jun

Summertime is the perfect season to have some fun outdoors, and Keds are the perfect shoes to wear on all of your adventures. Here are four outfit ideas that are awesome for the summer!

Outfit #1: A Stroll on The Boardwalk
The nautical look is everywhere this summer, and Keds’ Starbird Neon shoes are right on trend! Match the cool blue Keds with a sailor inspired top and a pair of loose fitting shorts for a fun day in the sun. We like the white cotton polo with navy stripes from Marc by Marc Jacobs, paired with grey denim cuffed shorts made by Alice + Olivia. Throw in a matching blue and white tote bag designed by Diane von Furstenberg, and you’ve got the perfect outfit to wear on the boardwalk!

Outfit #2: Date Night

Shades of peach have been on the fashion radar since last year, but that doesn’t mean peach isn’t making a comeback for the summer of 2013! The peachy Keds Champion Sparkle Lace are adorable, and would look great mixed with other shades of peach and pink. The pretty Diane von Furstenberg silk blouse is flirty and cool for summer. You can wear the blouse with some floral printed jeans by Haute Hippie and Rebecca Minkoff’s peach striped boyfriend bag for an amazing summer date night outfit!

Outfit #3: Visiting the Museum
Sometimes being stuck at home during the summer is boring, so you have to think of new things to do! Going to your local museum or an art show is a fun way to spend an otherwise boring afternoon. Get dressed up and take some photos while you’re there! Keds Champion Dot shoes will keep your feet both comfortable and stylish while you browse. A strapless dress like the one from Acne for Lanvin will keep you cool, and a couple of statement pieces will complete your outfit. Try a ring that matches your shoe color, or a witty 3.1 Phillip Lim pop-art handbag!

Outfit #4: A Day at the Beach

Going to the beach or pool is almost inevitable for most of us during the summer. When the weather gets too hot you can throw on a pair of Beacon Keds and a swim suit; then head for the water! Laura Urbinati makes chic bathing suits for every body type, and you can store your swimwear in a trendy beach bag by Cuval. If you’re going to an outdoor pool, lake or beach, be sure to wear sunscreen and protect your eyes with some sunglasses like the ones from the Just Cavalli line.

What to wear with keds?

21 Jul

This question is asked a lot. I also wear keds very often and sometimes I wonder if a skirt and keds is actually appropriate. I made a research and found some dress patterns you may like and utilize:

1) For teenagers: blue canvas keds, no socks, white tunic or dress. Should be short.

2) For romantic look: long dress (one color) + bright colored scarf and same color canvas keds. In this case pink works great with beige.

3) Going party? Shiny skirt and gangster sneaks work best!

4) On cold days: high white sneakers with stylish velcro laces add style to your classical coat and spaghetti trousers:

5) Nest outfit for colorful bright sneakers: high hilled anckle top sneaks with colored lines and stylish accessories will excite everyone around you:

Keds outfits with dresses for young women 2012!

23 Apr

With all the new Keds sneakers that have come out for the 2012 year, there is a need to coordinate the right type of outfits to wear with your Keds sneakers. Keds fashion is quickly becoming a great fashion statement and Keds are definitely a women geared sneaker trend. Many women are wearing Keds, and with good reason, there are so many fantastic new Keds sneakers that have come out recently. The questions is, how to wear Keds? And, the answer lies in keeping a casual and cool vibe to whatever you happen to pair with your Keds sneakers.

Maxi skirts look great with the new Keds sneakers. Any type of maxi skirt in a cotton or other casual material is ideal. Pair your Keds sneakers and maxi skirt with a trendy crop top. The maxi skirt you wear with your Keds can be black or brightly colored, but the rule is that whatever color your skirt happens to be, wear your Keds in a different color. Never match your Keds to your skirt, this looks dated and not very unique. When wearing a black skirt, wear a pair of bright red Keds and a gray or white crop top and when wearing a brightly colored maxi skirt, wear a pair of muted white, black or navy Keds.

Dress the outfit you wear with Keds up with lots of jewelry. The best item to wear with your Keds is a lot of jewelry. Long, multi-strand necklaces are perfect when paired with your Keds sneakers. Big hoop earrings or lots of bracelets also make a statement, when pairing them with your Keds.

Don’t forget to wear your Keds with florals and prints. Keds look great with all types of prints and especially florals and nautical stripes. Pair your Keds with a floral and chiffon dress or a striped top and Capri pants. The great thing about Keds sneakers is they match with prints very well.

The History of Red Sneakers

15 Mar

Red sneakers have a long and fulfilling history going back to the turn of the twentieth century. Wait? Turn of the twentieth century?

Yes, in fact the humble sneaker has a history as long as your car and longer than many of your most treasured items in your family’s household.

Many believe the earliest sneaker, including the red sneaker, go back as far as 1917 to the basketball player, Chuck Taylor’s famous design. However, this is incorrect, the red sneaker goes back even further to as early as 1907, to the invention of vulcanized rubber by Charles Goodyear, almost immediately afterwards companies began producing athletics shoes of various designs and varieties.

However, Chuck Taylor can in fact trace red canvas sneakers back to the famous design in 1917, who suggested the canvas sneaks design when he was playing basketball professionally. In 1916, a company called Keds began producing sneakers, one of which was Red Keds. Red Keds in fact were the first to use the term “sneakers” in reference to their shoes’ rubber soles ability to “sneak” around corners.

Since then sneakers, including the various red sneakers design have been a staple of teenage fashion. Whether it is for their athletic uses or through the use of various subcultures among teenage fashion populaces, sneakers have become a commonplace sight on many school campuses. Since the 1980s and 1990s teenagers among the “punk” and “Goth” subcultures of teenage students have been wearing sneakers such as Red Keds due to both their simplicity and variety of design.

Many famous wearers of red canvas sneakers include Led Zeppelin, Woody Allen, Dustin Hoffman, and more. These have increased the exposure of the sneaker design among the teenage and other populaces in the fashion industry. Leading to their use in the casual shoe industry among followers of fashion trends. Today many teenagers wear them as a symbol of pride and solidarity among their peers.

However, red sneakers are still popular in their intended use in the field of athletics. Their rubber soles allow for continuous use on surfaces such as basketball courts and their canvas lining provides an aerated atmosphere for one’s feet to feel comfortable in playing. Ever since that first endorsement sneakers of all kinds have been a staple of basketball and basketball culture among the teenage fashion trends. Red sneakers in particular are a particularly fashionable version of the classic red canvas sneaks design. Sports endorsers are bigger and better, increasing the marketing and exposure of these shoes among the athletics fashion populaces.

Therefore, whether one wears them for fashion or for practicality a pair of red keds or red canvas sneaks is the way to go for comfort and practicality. Use in both athletics and fashion keeps the sneaker at the forefront of clothing and fashion design and trending. The sneaker has come a long way in our time, and shows every sign of continuing on as strong as ever, and those original designs are still with us to this day.

What do you wear Keds canvas sneakers with?

25 Feb

Keds sneakers are a staple with children, teens and adults. They look great with everything and are comfortable to boot. The best types of outfits to wear with Keds sneakers are casual and fun; spring and summer looks. But, it is also interesting to change it up a bit and pair your Keds sneakers with a floral dress or denim skirt.

Keds sneakers come in all colors of the rainbow. But, their most famous and most popular shoe is the white Keds sneaker. Red Keds look great with jeans and jean shorts and navy Keds pair amazingly with Capri white jeans or a summer dress. Always remember that Keds sneakers look best with no socks or very low socks. This looks both clean and chic.

Here are some looks to try when sporting your Keds sneakers:

 1. There is nothing better than wearing your all-around great looking white Keds sneakers with slouchy Capri pants in beige. A white shirt tops off this look, along with a black jacket. This entire outfit is great for spring afternoons going shopping or even to a barbecue. The idea is that it is a relaxed look that is both fashionable and cute.

The other outfit, paired with the popular white Keds sneakers is a casual blue dress and a scarf. The scarf brings a pop of color to the ensemble and the bright blue looks great alongside the stark white of the Keds. This outfit is easy to wear and looks very comfortable.

Both of the ladies in these pictures decided to wear their white Keds sneakers sans socks; which looks perfect!

2. This lady knows how to wear her navy Keds beautifully. She is wearing a white dress with navy piping and a navy bow. She added a pink bracelet for some color along with a navy blue headband. She looks put together and pretty. This outfit is perfect for a spring or summer day.

3. Red Keds look great with navy blue. Wearing a navy blue dress is the perfect addition to red Keds. The dress looks casual, but unique with its asymmetrical hemline. The dress could almost look elegant, but pairing it with the red Keds puts the outfit into a class of its own. The red Keds bring a lightheartedness feel to the dress and this ensemble could go from day to night easily with no changes or additions.

4. Pairing multicolored Keds sneakers with a romper is the perfect daytime outfit. The Keds are blue and maroon and look great paired with a romper complete with a brown belt and head wrap. The necklaces and purse complete the casual, but stylish outfit. Multicolored Keds look best when paired with solid colors, especially when one of the colors of the shoe matches the color of the outfit.

5. Pairing navy Keds sneakers with red shorts and a navy printed t-shirt looks different and amazing. The navy Keds are comfortable to wear and adding the red shorts adds a fun twist to the usual denim shorts. The printed t-shirt accompanies the navy Keds and red shorts well and balances out the look.

6. Keds can even be paired with winter attire. These Keds sneakers look great when paired with rolled up pants, a scarf and a long cardigan. The fact of pulling the hair into a bun and sunglasses make this look very fashionable. When winter comes around, don’t put your Keds sneakers in the back of your closet, and pair them with your sweaters and even jackets. The best rule of thumb for this look is to layer separates for a slouchy feel and roll up your pants to show off your Keds.

7. Red Keds paired with a black skirt, polka dot tights, a striped shirt, blazer, suspenders and a pirate styled hat is reserved for the bold. Personally, I would take off the tights, suspenders and hat and there is a very cute outfit lurking within. Wearing it all together is definitely noticeable, but not for everybody. Although, red Keds paired with black and white, a skirt and a blazer looks distinctive and well put together.

Anyways, just keep experimenting with new styles for keds and sneakers! It’s when you are bold and brave you attract a lot of attention!

How did teenagers start wearing sneakers as a part of fashion?

16 Feb

Sneakers have been around a very long time. They started manufacturing sneakers in the late 18th century, but they did not coin the name “sneakers” until the year 1892. This is when the US Rubber company came out with Keds brand sneakers, made of canvas tops and rubber. Keds brand sneakers are still around today and if you have a pair, you can feel confident you are wearing the most historical sneaker ever created. The moniker sneakers came about because, when someone wore this type of shoe, they could sneak around without anyone hearing them walk; because of the rubber sole and canvas. People started calling the shoes, sneakers.

Sneakers started gaining momentum as with all types of athletes all over the world. In the year, 1917, Marquis Converse created a basketball sneaker, commonly called Converse All-Stars. Following Marquis’ creation, a basketball player by the name of Chuck Taylor endorsed Converse All-Stars, converting the name to Chuck Taylor’s. In 1924, Adi Dassler created a sneaker with the name, Adidas. Adi’s brother then created another sneaker, the puma. Sneakers are worn by the top players in sports, including being worn in the Olympics.

Sneakers being worn by the public started during the 50’s. This is when kids started wearing them as fashion statements, instead of to play a sport. In 1984, the sneakers trend hit an all time high with Michael Jordan wearing the Air Jordan’s. Nike and Reebok competed on the sneaker scene along with Adidas. Up sprung sneakers for every sport imaginable, including skateboarding, running and cross training. Sneaker companies started putting bright colors and unique designs on their sneakers to add to the competition.

Today, more and more sneaker manufacturers are making sneakers with amazing designs and even better features. There has been the Nike Air Force, using gas as a cushion to make the person wearing the sneaker jump and run faster, creating a type of bounce effect. Reebok came out with The Pump sneaker, in which you could pump air right into your sneaker, ensuring for a perfect fit every time.

Sneakers are a staple and I don’t know anybody who doesn’t have at least one pair of sneakers. Women, men, children and even babies wear sneakers. Sneakers come in all colors of the rainbow, from, pink to black, patterned and green, red and rainbow and everything in between. The features that come with sneakers nowadays are endless, some types of sneakers are great for runners, others are great for hikers; some are perfect for basketball players. The list could go on and on with how many different types of sneakers are in the market today.

The important thing is to remember how sneakers started, with a little known rubber and canvas shoe, the Keds sneaker. They are the shoe that started it all and they have lasted until the present day.
